Blessed (happy, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes]… But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night….and everything he does shall prosper [and come to maturity].
Psalm 1:1-3 AMP
A more traditional version:
Blessed is the man who doesn’t walk in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stand in the way of sinners,
nor sit in the seat of scoffers;
but his delight is in Yahweh’s law.
On his law he meditates day and night.
He will be like a tree planted by the streams of water,
that brings forth its fruit in its season,
whose leaf also does not wither.
Whatever he does shall prosper.
I believe that I am careful as to who’s counsel I seek out and trust, however I have a long way to go before I can honestly say that I “meditate” on the law of God (even at all). I like the traditional version of the passage, particularly verse 3:
“He will be like a tree planted by the streams of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also does not wither. Whatever he does shall prosper.”
A poetic explanation of what every man should aspire to be.
